Yamaha Motor Company – Global Profile – History

Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. was founded in July 1955 when the motorcycle division of Nippon Gakki Co., Ltd. (now Yamaha Corporation) was spun off and made into an independent company. The company has actively entered international markets since the 1960s and developed its business based on its basic powertrain, chassis and hull, electronic control and manufacturing technologies. The company offers a variety of products worldwide that Kando creates by utilizing technology and keen sensitivity.

Founded

Entering the Motorcycle Industry As Japan recovered from the war, Genichi Kawakami, the fourth president of Nippon Gakki and later founding president of Yamaha Motor, decided to enter the motorcycle business to establish a foothold for growth outside of musical instruments. Although the company was late to the market, it attracted a lot of attention with the innovative coloring and design of its first product, its light weight and maneuverability, and the ease of starting the engine – an incredibly important factor at the time. Herein lie the origins of Yamaha Motor’s unique style.
