Great Britain’s No. 2 seed Katie Boulter reached her third final of the year by defeating No. 6 seed Yuan Yu of China 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 at the Hong Kong Tennis Open on Saturday.
She won in San Diego and Nottingham earlier this season and will face top seed Diana Shnyder of Russia for the title on Sunday. Boulter won 68 percent of his first serve points (40 out of 59) and converted six of 15 break opportunities.
Schneider has three career titles this season. She advanced by defeating third-seeded Leyla Fernandez of Canada 6-4, 6-2 behind five break points in 87 minutes.
Jiangxi Open
In Jiujiang, China, unseeded Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland defeated top seed Marie Bouzkova 6-1, 6-2 to reach the final.
The Czech dominated the opening three rounds, winning each match in straight sets, but the Swiss eliminated Golubic on the strength of eight service breaks in the 77-minute match.
In the final, Golubic will face No. 2 seed Rebecca Schramkova of Slovakia, who defeated Germany’s Laura Siegmund 7-6(4), 6-2. Shramkova saved 12 out of 15 break points while breaking the German player five times.
With her win in Hua Hin, Shramkova will be playing in her fourth final of the season.
