With selection for Pakistan T20 series, Australian team has its eyes set on India’s Test matches.

Australia have opted to leave out all of their first-choice Test XI for the upcoming Twenty20 series against Pakistan as they prepare for a blockbuster battle for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

After facing Pakistan in three ODIs starting on November 4, Australia will face the same opponent in the shortest format of international cricket.

But the third and final T20 will take place in Hobart on November 18, just four days before the first Test against India at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

Josh Inglis, uncapped at Test level, is the only member of the T20 squad named on Monday who also has an outside chance of being selected to face India.

The team was announced without choosing the captain.

The West Australian is in the running to fill the red-ball opener’s vacancy, but is more likely to have young talent Sam Konstas or Nathan McSweeney as Usman Khawaja’s new opening partner.

Fast bowlers Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis and Spencer Johnson have been recalled to the white-ball team after recovering from injuries.

Chairman of selectors George Bailey said, “This group of players have represented Australia in T20 cricket, so we expect them to continue to add to their international experience during this series.”

“We are excited by the mix of combined experiences with those who are nearing the start of their international journey.

“It is particularly exciting to have Xavier, Spencer and Nathan back in the national set-up.

“This is another opportunity for him to showcase his ability on the international stage, as he has done in the past.”

Australian T20 squad: Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa.
