Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah said that India has turned down Bangladesh Cricket Board’s request to host Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in October. Political unrest has raised question marks over whether the country will be able to host the World Cup this year. Earlier, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had said that they will monitor the situation in Bangladesh before deciding to move the tournament. In a recent interview, Jay Shah said that India will host the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup and the BCCI does not want to give “any indication” that the country wants to host consecutive World Cups.

Jai Shah also said that the BCCI is not in favor of organizing a pink ball Test match. The last pink ball Test match in India was played in Bengaluru against Sri Lanka in 2022. India did not play any pink ball series at home during the last two series against Australia and England.
“You buy a ticket for a five-day match, but the game is over in 2-3 days… there is no refund. I am a bit emotional about it,” Jay Shah said.
Meanwhile, former South African great fast bowler Morne Morkel has been appointed as the new bowling coach of the Indian cricket team.
The 39-year-old is understood to replace Paras Mhambrey and will take over as bowling coach from the series against Bangladesh, which begins with the first Test in Chennai on September 19. He has been appointed till the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa.
“Yes, Morne Morkel has been appointed as the bowling coach of the Indian senior men’s team,” Shah told PTI.
The other members of Gambhir’s support staff are assistant coaches Abhishek Nayyarand fielding coach Ryan ten Doeschate.
Morkel was also Gambhir’s preferred choice, having worked with the Lucknow Super Giants in two IPL seasons as a mentor to the franchise.
