White Sox suffer record 121st loss of the season

The Chicago White Sox broke the modern record for most losses in a Major League Baseball season with their 121st loss in 2024.

They achieved the unwanted milestone with a 4–1 loss over the Detroit Tigers.

“This is not the year we wanted,” said Grady Sizemore, who took over as interim manager after Pedro Grifol was sacked in August.

Pitcher Garrett Crochet said: “Obviously it sucks.”

The White Sox suffered their 120th loss of the season on Sunday, tying the 1962 New York Mets record.

Fans flocked to Chicago’s Guaranteed Rate Field this week to watch the White Sox break records as they won three straight games against the Los Angeles Angels.

Detroit’s victory at Comerica Park clinched a berth in the American League playoffs for the first time since 2014.

After the game the White Sox posted a photo of a computer on social media with a list of “things we’d rather do than read comments” and a photo of the team’s mascot sitting in front of a wall with the caption “Until The laptop may not shut down “tomorrow”.
