Watch live coverage of Day 6 of the 2024 US Open
Sixth day US Open The third round in the singles draw has concluded.
In the men’s draw, the exit of Carlos Alcaraz has created a huge opportunity in this half, while in the women’s draw Iga Swiatek remains the favourite for this side.
Here’s what’s worth seeing on the three show courts and around the grounds:

Jessica Bouzas Maneiro vs. Jessica Pegula (6)
Jessica Pegula made it to the last 32 with a tough tasking win against Sofia Kenin and will now face one of the best heavyweights of the year. Bouzas Maneiro knocked out reigning Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova from this year’s tournament in the first round. This is the Spaniard’s first appearance in the main draw of the US Open.
Jannik Sinner (1) vs. Chris O’Connell
After a shaky opening set against Mackenzie McDonald in his first match, Jannik Sinner composed himself and swept the American off the court. He did it again against Alex Michelsen in the next round, this time without any shaky parts. Australian Chris O’Connell is unlikely to take much confidence from those results, but the world number 87 has recorded two courageous four-set victories in New York, including beating Chile’s number 26 Nicolas Jarry in the first round.
Iga Swiatek (1) vs. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (25)
Iga Swiatek and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova have played one match against each other on the WTA Tour, and the Russian player has yet to win a single game. They met at the Masters 1000 tournament in Rome in 2023, where Swiatek won 6-0, 6-0.
Flavio Cobolli (31) vs. Daniil Medvedev (5)
When Flavio Cobolli played Rafael Nadal in Madrid, he cringed at the sight of the headband he had seen on TV for so many years. A few months later, he is in the top 30 and has a chance to trade punches with a player who won it all here just three years ago. Since a late-night thriller with Holger Rune at the French Open, which Cobolli lost despite leading 5-0 and 6-2 in the match tiebreak, he has joined the ranks of players no one in the top 10 wants to face. Medvedev is one of them. He will have his hands full.

Yulia Putintseva (30) vs. Jasmine Paolini (5)
It should be a thrilling ride. Paolini smiles and bounces no matter what is happening in front of her. Putintseva is energetic when she plays and crackles when she is out of form, pushing ahead with a lead to force her opponent to play faster and lashing out against herself when she is behind. Paolini has been the most consistent this season, winning two Grand Slam finals, but Putintseva is 13-2 since tennis took its annual six-week detour to the lawn.
Sara Errani vs. Diana Schnaider (18)
Gabriel Diallo (q) vs. Tommy Paul (14)
Alex de Minaur (11) vs. Dan Evans
Beatriz Haddad Maia (22) vs. Anna Kalinskaya (15)

Karolina Muchova vs. Anastasia Potapova
Botic van de Zandschulp vs. Jack Draper (25)
Two of the three players who have beaten Carlos Alcaraz this season will meet to reach the last 16. The US Open is the venue for Draper’s best Grand Slam performance, but he comes into it as the embodiment of all the filthy, dirty parts of on-court tennis that players hate and fans love to hate. His role in a controversial decision by umpire Gregg Allensworth on match point against Felix Auger-Aliassime in Cincinnati led to him being labelled a “cheater” in his words, despite the fact that players do not and never will make their own decisions on the ATP Tour. Van de Zandschulp was lost for words after playing the best tennis of his life to knock out Carlos Alcaraz
Jessica Ponchet vs. Caroline Wozniacki
Matteo Arnaldi (30) vs. Jordan Thompson

David Goffin vs. Tomas Machak
The funny thing about tennis is you can’t play someone your whole career, then play a match that sears itself in your mind and never be forgotten. For David Goffin, that match is the first round of this year’s Wimbledon, and that player is Tomas Machak, the Olympic gold medalist in mixed doubles. Goffin was up 5-0 in the final set against the Czech, and he lost it 7-6. Now they will face each other in the most open quarter of the men’s Grand Slam draw for some time.

Nuno Borges vs. Jacob Mensik
