Kishan, who was not part of Jharkhand’s original longlist, decided to participate and was included in the squad after he informed the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA), ESPNcricinfo reported.
The report further stated that Kishan’s return to Ranji Trophy is also expected during the 2024-25 season, as he has informed the state selectors of his desire to return.
His last domestic first-class match was in December 2022. He stayed away from the Ranji Trophy at the end of the 2023-24 domestic season and it proved costly for him, as he was dropped from the central contracts list for not prioritising domestic cricket.
“In Ishan’s case, it was never about merit. It was only about whether he was ready to come back. The decision was in his hands. When he was not included in the initial list, it was only because we did not approach him. The moment he expressed his desire to come back, he was included in the squad,” ESPNcricinfo quoted a JSCA official as saying.
The 26-year-old made his Test debut in 2023 during India’s tour of the West Indies, replacing an injured player. Rishabh PantHis last first-class match was the second Test match of that tour.
