Ulster Rugby: New signing Jack Murphy says he had ‘difficulty’ figuring out where he ‘fit’ at Leinster

With a new chapter in his club career awaiting him next season, Murphy is currently preparing for this summer’s U20 Rugby World Cup in South Africa as part of a 35-man squad under new Ireland head coach Willie Faloon.

Murphy started all five of Ireland’s Under-20 matches in the Six Nations this year, scoring 52 points as the team lost the title to England after a dramatic final round of matches.

Ireland also suffered a bitter defeat at the U20 World Cup last year, losing to France in the final in Cape Town.

Captain Evan O’Connell – nephew of Irish international Paul – Brian Gleeson, Danny Sheahan, Hugh Gavin and Sam Berman are the five members of the team who played in last year’s tournament, but Murphy is determined to use his injury in the Six Nations as motivation for the tournament in South Africa.

“The other guys and I are really motivated now.

“That’s given us something to work towards at this World Cup. We were a bit hurt after the Six Nations, so we’re trying to bring that into the World Cup this year and give it our all.”
