And now a 17-year-old basketball player who recently held their own against the gold medal-winning Team USA, has publicly aligned itself with a brand that, at one point, couldn’t even come close to Nike or Adidas in the sneaker wars.

“New Balance has announced the addition of Gatorade National Player of the Year and Naismith Player of the Year, Cooper Flagg, to the brand,” a press release said.

“The 6’9” power forward’s impressive playing style and special connection to the brand make him a perfect addition to the New Balance family, inspiring the next generation of athletes.”

“I have a deep respect for the legacy of baseball and the sport it represents,” Ohtani said. “I love that this collection brings a new school twist while paying homage to traditional old school style.

According to Forbes, Gauff has an estimated net worth of $27 million.

This month, an update to the tennis star’s signature shoe, the New Balance Coco CG2, was unveiled.

The update was held at a pop-up event in New York, timed to coincide with the start of the 2024 US Open in Queens.

The shoe’s knit tongue features a tennis ball, and reflects the architecture of Paris, Gauff’s favorite city.

“The launch colourway combines two explosive colours, Oxidised Blue and Firefly, with a fun twist inspired by the Statue of Liberty and the city’s glowing lights,” a statement said.

“Coco CG2 blends more colour and character than the first version, matching the bright energy of the city that never sleeps.”

Kawhi Leonard, Gabe Thomas and Tyrese Maxey also join New Balance, which is headquartered in Boston and has reported worldwide sales of $6.5 billion in 2023.

Flagg is set to begin his highly anticipated collegiate career at Duke in the fall.

The five-star player averaged 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 3.7 steals and 3.7 blocks per game in his senior season of high school.

He was one of 15 athletes named to the 2024 USA Basketball Men’s Select Team, and was the first collegiate player to receive the honor since 2013.

Flagg is already projected to be the No. 1 overall pick for 2025 nba Draft.
