Spencer Rattler to start for Saints against Buccaneers in place of injured Derek Carr

Derek Carr has been ruled out with an oblique injury. New Orleans Saints Head coach Dennis Allen has made up his mind about who will start for the Saints this weekend tampa bay buccaneers,

Rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler.

Rattler, the Saints’ fifth-round pick in 2024 nfl draftHe was named the team’s No. 3 quarterback behind Carr and Jake Hanner for each of New Orleans’ first five games of the season. During preseason action, Rattler completed 20 of 38 passes for 202 yards and one touchdown, and he threw no interceptions.

That lone touchdown came on a well-thrown vertical route to Equanimius St. Brown working out of the slot:

Rattler also showed the ability to attack the middle of the field with timing and anticipation, as he did in this game tennessee titansActing out of play-action:

Or on this finale against Stanley Morgan Jr. Arizona Cardinals

In his limited pre-season action, Rattler also showed the ability to impress defenders with his eyes. On this completion from AT Perry, again working from play-action, Rattler flashes his eyes in the middle of the field just before making this throw. That slight impact keeps the defense in the middle of the field, creating more room for Perry’s vertical routes:

Now, Rattler will get a chance to put those skills to the real test against the Buccaneers in his NFL debut.
