Jon Rahm’s first LIV golf season was left incomplete when he withdrew from the Team Championship last week, but he is expected to compete in this week’s National Open on the DP World Tour.
Rahm, who is returning to the circuit in a final attempt to remain eligible for selection for the 2025 Ryder Cup, is a strong favourite in Madrid.
Racing & Football Outlook Golf tipster Joe Champion had a 22/1 winner last week as Billy Horschel won the BMW PGA Championship and he has four each-way tips to follow in the Spanish capital.

Spanish Open outright selections
Matt Wallace 20/1 each side
The Spanish Open market revolves around three-time champion Jon Rahm, but he withdrew last week due to illness and will be the subject of media attention when he competes on the DP World Tour for the first time since moving to LIV.
If Rahm is in that place in his game where he has been victorious on two occasions, he will be tough to beat. However, there are more than enough reasons to look for value elsewhere at Club de Campo Villa.
The Madrid ground, which is smaller because of its elevation, could prove ideal for Matt Wallace, who has already proven he can win when the ball goes far when he won the European Masters last month.
Wallace tied for 12th with a Crans-sur-Sierre victory at Wentworth, and shot a brilliant 64 on Sunday that never caught his eye – his previous best finish was 20th in 2018.
The Englishman, who finished eighth at the British Masters before his victory at Crans, is brimming with confidence. He has performed well and scrambled well in recent tournaments, and looks to be commanding a high price for an early double.
Alex Fitzpatrick 40/1 each side
Alex Fitzpatrick missed the cut by one shot last week, but that could prove to be a boon for him as he has now moved up to where he finished 20th last season.
The Sheffield man’s form figures were 6-12-6-9 before the defeat at Wentworth and he should keep knocking on the door of the DP World Tour.
Ewen Ferguson at 45/1
Scotland’s Ewen Ferguson is also in good form, having tied for ninth at last season’s Spanish Open and 18th at Wentworth last week.
Ferguson won the BMW International Open in Munich in July and was in full control of his long game at Wentworth. He performed well in Madrid last year and looks to be a threat for the title again.
Adrian Otaegui 60/1 each side
There are a number of exciting Spanish youngsters attracting attention this week, but the best option in the home squad could be the more experienced Adrian Otaegui.
The precise 31-year-old has regained top form, posting two consecutive top 20 finishes. His cold putter was also starting to warm up at Wentworth.
