Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley reveals 1 major change to 2025 qualifying criteria

New York – Keegan Bradley in collaboration with the PGA of America unveiled Team USA selection criteria for 2025 ryder cupThe process is similar to the one used in 2023, when the Europeans defeated the Americans in Rome.

However, one notable difference stands out: major champions will not receive bonus points for wins in 2025.

Those who won majors in 2023 received two points per $1,000 earned in The Masters, pga championship, us openOr open. This essentially cemented all four major champions on the team, including Brooks Koepka, who became the first active LIV player to win a major at Oak Hill.

No such award will be given this year.

Instead, the PGA of America will retain its 1.5 points per $1,000 earned in majors, which the organization also used in 2023. But the winners will not get anything extra. So, if a LIV golfer wins a major next year, they will not receive the premium that Koepka received at Oak Hill.

Koepka’s win in Rochester earned him a full berth on the team, as he had been in the top six players for most of the season. As noted, Koepka finished seventh by the smallest margin in the final standings, which were finalized at the end of the 2023 BMW Championship. But captain Zach Johnson had no choice but to use one of his six captain picks on Koepka due to his strong play.

The top six players earned automatic spots on the team, while Johnson had the choice of six captains. The same formula applies to Bradley’s team in 2025.

Nevertheless, Bradley insists his team will have the 12 best players no matter where they play on the tour.

“I’m going to take the 12 best players,” Bradley said Tuesday.

“So if we feel like there’s a couple of guys out there, one guy, two guys, whatever, we’re going to do it. But we’re a long way from figuring out how this will all play out. But we are definitely going to take the 12 best players, although it may be surprising.

As far as the remaining criteria are concerned, including all American players liv golfer-Opportunity to earn points at four major tournaments and The Players Championship in 2024. Players earned one Ryder Cup point for every $1,000 earned in those five events. Unsurprisingly, Scotty Scheffler and Xander Schauffele sit on top Current Ryder Cup standings,

Then, in 2025, players who place in PGA Tour events will receive one point per $1,000 earned, beginning January 1, 2025, through the final event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs in August—the BMW Championship. 17, 2025. This also includes the Players Championship. Nevertheless, this system does not include opposite-field phenomena, such as Corrales Puntacana ChampionshipBecause players must compete in regular PGA Tour events to earn points.

This proves that Bradley only wants the best of the best.
