Ruud van Nistelrooy: Burnley in talks with former Manchester United player over vacant coaching position

Burnley have spoken to former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy about filling the vacant managerial position.

The Clarets were relegated back to the Championship last season and coach Vincent Kompany left the club. will move to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in May.

BBC Sport has learned that Dutchman Van Nistelrooy and former England internationals Frank Lampard and Scott Parker are all in talks with the Turf Moor side.

According to reports from the Netherlands, 47-year-old Van Nistelrooy is close to signing a multi-year deal, but an announcement of the club’s decision is not expected this week.

His only previous management role was leading PSV Eindhoven to second place in the Eredivisie and success in the KNVB Cup in the 2022/23 season.

Van Nistelrooy joined the Red Devils from PSV in 2001 and scored 95 goals in 150 Premier League games before moving to Real Madrid in 2006.
