LONDON: Erling Haaland scored his 91st goal in his 100th game for Manchester City on Sunday as the champions claimed a thrilling 2-0 win over Chelsea to open their Premier League title defence.
The big Norwegian, fed by Bernardo Silva, weaved his way through Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana and slotted past Robert Sanchez in the 18th minute. Former Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic made sure of the visitors’ victory six minutes from time, ripping through a disorganised Chelsea midfield to head the ball into Sanchez’s net.
In their first Premier League match under new manager Enzo Maresca, Chelsea produced some promising attacks through Cole Palmer, Nicholas Jackson and recent signing Pedro Neto but were largely outplayed by their more composed guests.
