LIV Golf’s Jon Rahm overcomes broken driver to lead Spanish Open leaderboard

Jon Rahm Had some problems with my driver during my third round DP World Tour Spanish Open in Madrid. It needed repair early on, so he had to make do without it until the 14th hole.

But Rahm was unfazed by the setback, saying, “It didn’t really affect me too much.” Instead, he took his 3-wood off the tees and paraded it around the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid for a 6-under 65. He had zero bogeys and six birdies and now trails countryman Angel Hidalgo by two through 54 holes.

“At the end of the day on this course, if you keep it in the fairway, you’re always better off hitting driver offline. Did a great job of mitigating it,” Rahm said.

“But I was happy to get the driver back as soon as possible. I just assumed that I would play the rest of the round without it. I was happy to hear the news on the 12th that I would have it by the 14th. I think that’s what it was – I don’t know, just a little moment of happiness that gave me a little boost for the rest of the round. ,

When Rahm got his driver on the 14th hole, he was already 4-under for his round. But he made two more birdies on the 16th hole 18th hole To move up further on the leaderboard.

He will now head into Sunday’s final round in search of his fourth Spanish Open title, surpassing his previous three wins save ballesteros-His ideals-conquered throughout his illustrious career. A win would mean the whole world to Rahm and Spanish golf.

Even better, Rahm will join Hidalgo and 22-year-old Spaniard David Puig in the final pairing on Sunday, who went arizona state To join LIV Golf in 2022.

“I am very excited. I have not been paired with them in any tour or tournament yet. We play a lot at home, but that has not happened yet. I am happy that we are here for the first time in the final round and the final. Going to join the group,” Rahm said.

“And hopefully, I can end up with a win, but it will definitely be a Sunday atmosphere that they haven’t experienced yet. There’s going to be a lot of people there watching, and it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
