Lifelong Ipswich fan Ed Sheeran buys a minority stake in the club

Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has acquired a minority stake in Ipswich,

Sheeran is a lifelong fan of the Tractor Boys and has been the shirt sponsor for the men’s and women’s teams since 2021.

Total share of the 33-year-old player Premier League The stake in the club acquired through Gamechanger 20 Ltd is 1.4 per cent.

As part of the agreement, Sheeran will get long-term use of an executive box at Portman Road, which he will personalise ahead of the 2024–25 season.

He will not be a voting shareholder or board member.

“I’m really excited to have bought a small part of my hometown football club,” Yorkshire-born Sheeran told Ipswich’s website.

“It is the dream of any football fan to become the owner of the club they support and I am very grateful for this opportunity.

“I have been Suffolk I’ve been here since I was three and although I travel the world and sometimes feel like an outsider in bigger cities, Suffolk and Ipswich have always made me feel safe and part of the community.

“It’s just me investing some money into the club I love and they’re paying me back for this behaviour, so please don’t give me tips on signing contracts or playing strategies!”

Ipswich are back in the top tier for the first time since 2002 following promotion from the Championship and begin their new campaign at home against Liverpool on Saturday.

Club chairman Mark Ashton said: “One of the world’s biggest artists giving us so much of his time and giving the club such incredible exposure around the world, while asking for very little in return, highlights why this relationship is so special.”

“It has been a pleasure getting to know Ed and his team over the last three years and now as the club enters the Premier League, we look forward to strengthening our relationship even further.”
