Kevin Durant is crazy for comparing the Phoenix Suns to the Kansas City Chiefs

The Phoenix Suns finished seventh in the Western Conference last year, but their superstar forward has drawn comparisons to the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Kevin Durant is amazing at basketball. A foreigner, even. When healthy, he is dominant on both sides of the floor wherever he goes. But that doesn’t mean he’s not confused.

Durant appeared on “Up and Adams” with Kay Adams on FanDuel TV, where he was asked to compare his Suns to an NFL team.

“I’ll tell the Chiefs,” Durant explained to Adams. “Because we bring that championship mentality every day.”

Adams was quick to point out that the Suns have never won an NBA championship, while the Chiefs are looking for their third consecutive Super Bowl and currently have Best record in NFL at 5-0A more appropriate comparison for Adams? Buffalo Bill.

“No,” Durant said. “They have been known to get there and then lose. I don’t want to be one of those people. I would just love to go with the champions and adopt that mentality.

There’s nothing wrong with that mentality, and Durant’s Suns will definitely need it in a loaded Western Conference this upcoming season. Needless to say, what else should Durant have said? No doubt he was going to compare his team with the defending champions. He couldn’t be completely honest. The bottom line is that Durant understands how much pressure is on his team to be successful in the playoffs this year.

If Durant is Patrick Mahomes, which is a fair comparison, then the Suns need Devin Booker and Bradley Beal as some combination of Chris Jones and Travis Kelce.

No disrespect to Mike Budenholzer, but I’m not sure he’s Andy Reid.

Bills is actually a more appropriate comparison. Then again, Durant could be Josh Allen. But beyond that? You can never trust the production of his supporting cast.

In fact? Add the New York Jets as another comparison.

Durant, who turned 36 in SeptemberNo more spring chickens like Aaron Rodgers. He tried to form a super team with his old friends, but it hasn’t worked out yet.

It’s hard to believe that this will be Durant’s third year in Phoenix, even though he only played 8 games during his first season in 2023 after being traded to the Brooklyn Nets. If Phoenix struggles again in the NBA playoffs, you have to imagine the trio of Durant, Booker and Beal will be looked at long and hard. And for good reason.

If the Chiefs fall behind for the third consecutive time by Lombardi, I’m not sure anyone is really looking at Mahomes, Kelce or Reid and pointing fingers and laughing the same way we would at the Suns.
