Keenan Allen injury status: How to handle the Bears WR in Week 2

state of play: Keenan Allen is inactive for Week 2 sunday night football,

Chicago Bears Wide receiver Keenan Allen is expected to be available for their Week 2 matchup against the Houston TexansThe team has placed Allen on the questionable list for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.

Allen was also listed as questionable in Week 1, but he played in the opener Tennessee Titans, Head coach Matt Eberflus said on Friday that the Bears will carry this through to the game on Sunday.

Keenan Allen injury status

The Bears wide receiver was placed on the questionable list on Friday after he missed a full week of practice due to an ankle injury that has been bothering him throughout training camp. Missing practice for a full week would not bode well for Allen. While he suffered the injury last week as well, he was able to practice limitedly all week. Allen did not participate in this week’s game against the Texans.

What does Keenan Allen’s injury mean for fantasy football?

We haven’t yet had a chance to see what the Bears’ offense looks like at its best. Allen was dominant last week as he consistently got open and close to scoring touchdowns. However, Caleb Williams only managed 93 yards passing. Allen may have only had four receptions for 29 yards, but he led Bears receivers with 11 targets.

If Allen is unable to go, Rome Odunze is also listed as questionable and will be a game-time decision. This would be a big boost for DJ Moore and tight end Cole Kmet could also be a player who benefits. Moore led the Bears in receptions last week and would be the only legitimate option in the outfield. In very deep leagues, Tyler Scott is a name to keep an eye on as a sleeper. Scott could end up as the second wide receiver in the offense with an injury.

Without Allen and a limited Odunje, Williams has not yet shown enough fantasy relevance to be worth starting. Williams struggled with his full arsenal last week. If Allen can’t get going, the number one overall pick could have another tough week.

Even if Allen plays, he may not be as effective due to not practicing all week. With injuries to wide receivers and a rookie quarterback, the Bears may rely more on the run game this week. Even if that is the case, the Texans run defense was strong in Week 1, limiting Jonathan Taylor to three yards per carry.
