Jasprit Bumrah unlikely to play in Bangladesh series; Arshdeep-Khalil in contention for first Test, report
Jasprit Bumrah He is reportedly expected to miss India’s next Test series against Bangladesh as the management wants a long rest for the star pacer. Bumrah has not played any cricket since India’s victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on June 29 and is likely to return to competitive cricket against New Zealand in October.
According to a PTI report, the management wants to keep Bumrah fresh and injury-free for the Test matches against New Zealand and Australia. India will then play two Tests against Bangladesh starting September 19 and a three-match Test series against New Zealand in October-November before moving to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy starting November 22.
If Bumrah misses out again, the BCCI selection committee is considering calling up Arshdeep Singh or either of them. Khalil AhmedBoth left-arm pacers have recently cemented their places in the white-ball teams but are yet to make their Test debut.
“In Bumrah’s case, he knows his body best and it will be up to him whether he wants to play in the Tests against Bangladesh or not,” a BCCI source told PTI. “The team management and selectors are very clear that India need a 120 per cent fit Jasprit Bumrah for all five Tests against Australia. Before that, India have New Zealand, where he will probably play and be ready for a tough Test.”
According to the same report, Yash Dayal is also in the race to join the team, but both Arshdeep and Khalil are contenders for Bumrah’s place. mohammed shami And Mohammed Siraj is expected to return to the red-ball cricket team for the Bangladesh series.
India will begin their Bangladesh series with two Test matches (in Chennai from September 19 and in Kanpur from September 27), followed by three T20 matches starting from October 6.
