Mohun Bagan Super Giants returned to their winning form by defeating their city rivals Mohammedan Sporting Club 3-0 in the fourth week of ISL-11 match at the Salt Lake Stadium here on Saturday. Jamie MacLaren, Subhashish Bose and Greg Stewart scored once each for Mohun Bagan SG, who comfortably won their first ISL meeting with Mohammedan Sporting by scoring all three goals in the opening session.

Mohun Bagan seemed to have received a warning from their previous defeat against Bengaluru FC and were aggressive from the start. Mohun Bagan made their attacking intentions clear as they gave a start to their most skilful forward, Jamie MacLaren. The Australian striker, who was returning from an injury suffered in pre-season training, justified his coach Jose Molina’s faith as he took the lead in the eighth minute after Stewart set him up with a back-head header at a corner.

Mohun Bagan maintained the tempo and launched regular attacks through the wing, with Manvir Singh and Liston Colaco operating with possession on the flanks. And before Mohammedan Sporting could plan a comeback, Mohun Bagan doubled the lead in the 31st minute. This happened through another Stewart assist which was signaled by a nod from its captain Subhashish Bose. Stewart moved from a provider role to a striker role when he scored Mohun Bagan’s third goal in the 36th minute with a superb solo effort.

Mohammedan Sporting failed to create much attack after the break, while Mohun Bagan made several errors to keep the first half scoreline intact till the end.

Result:

Mohun Bagan SG 3 (Jamie MacLaren 8, Subhasish Bose 31, Greg Stewart 36).
