Golf on TV: PGA Tour Zozo Championship in Japan, LPGA, DP World Tour in Asia

Three of the four biggest pro golf circuits are in Asia this week, making it difficult for American fans to watch.

The PGA Tour is in Japan for the Zozo Championship, featuring a Strong Zone Headlined by Collin Morikawa and Xander SchauffeleJustin Thomas is there, making his final start before becoming a father in late November. Hideki Matsuyama and Max Homa are also giving it a go, as is Joel Dahmen. Returning from last week’s Shriners Children’s OpenLike Dahmen, 2019 us open Champion Gary Woodland received a sponsor’s invitation this week, so he is also part of this limited field event of only 78 players.

Directly west, across the Sea of Japan, Tom Kim and Byeong Hun returned to their native South Korea for the Genesis Championship on the DP World Tour. It’s a big week on the circuit formally known as the European Tour. Following this, the top 70 players in the Race to Dubai standings will qualify for the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship from 7-10 November. From there, the top 50 advance to the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai the following week. Sitting just outside that range is young Danish phenom Nikolai Højgaard, who will try to break into the top 70 at Jack Nicklaus Golf Course Korea this week. Højgaard comes in ranked 78th in Asia, so a solid finish should put him on the right side of the bubble. He also won the DP World Tour Championship a year ago, so he is definitely motivated to try and come back to defend his title. It would be a disappointment for him to fall short.

Then, nearly 2,800 miles to the southwest, the LPGA returns to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for the second edition of the Maybank Championship. Celine Boutier beats Gino Thitikul in nine-hole playoff A year earlier, that was the Frenchwoman’s fourth win of the season. She has not won any official LGPA event since then, although she returned to Malaysia to defend her title. Other notables in the field include Lilia Wu, Brooke Henderson and Hannah Green, who just won her title The third event of the season at the BMW Ladies Championship In South Korea.

Finally, the PGA Tour Champions head to Arkansas for the Simmons Bank Championship, as the top 54 players on the Charles Schwab Cup points list qualify for the event. The top 36 players from Little Rock will advance to the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, hosted by Phoenix Country Club Nov. 7-10. The best players over 50 are playing this week, including Ernie Els, Padraig Harrington and Rocco Mediate.
