Draper, who won the biggest title of his career in Vienna on SundayWon 7-5 6-2 in one hour and eight minutes.
The first set remained extremely tight before Draper grabbed a crucial break in the 11th game.
The British player dominated the second set and won five consecutive games.
Now in the second round on Wednesday, he will face fifth seeded American Taylor Fritz.

De Minaur replaces Andrey Rublev in the final qualification position having reached the quarter-finals in Paris and will next play Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic.
Russian sixth seed Rublev, who had a bye in the first round, is out after a 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-5) loss to Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo.
