Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kashi Vishwanath has denied reports that the franchise has asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reintroduce the now-defunct rule to rope in MS Dhoni at a lower price. Earlier in the IPL, an international player’s name was placed in the ‘uncapped’ category after five years of retirement.
However, this rule was abolished after IPL 2021. Several reports have suggested that CSK wants this rule to come back as it will help them retain Dhoni as an ‘uncapped’ player, i.e. at a price less than Rs 4 crore. The franchise retained Dhoni for a price of Rs 12 crore in 2022. However, CSK CEO Vishwanath has denied rumours that the franchise made any such request.
