Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met the Indian contingent, which returned with six medals from the recently concluded Paris Olympics, at his residence in New Delhi. On this occasion, history-making shooter Manu Bhaker showed her pistol, with which she won two bronze medals. The Indian men’s hockey team, which won its second consecutive bronze medal in the Paris Games, presented the Prime Minister with a stick signed by all the players. Players, including recently retired PR Sreejesh and captain Harmanpreet Singh, were seen posing with the Prime Minister with bronze medals around their necks.
Bhaker, who became the first Indian to win two medals in the same edition of the Olympics, was seen telling the Prime Minister about the pistol with which she won two bronze medals in Paris – in the 10m air pistol and 10m air pistol mixed event.
Sarabjot Singh, who along with Manu Bhaker won the bronze medal in the 10m air pistol mixed event, also interacted with the Prime Minister. Swapnil Kusale also won a bronze medal in the 50m rifle 3 positions.
Wrestler Aman Sehrawat, who won the bronze medal in men’s freestyle 57kg, was also seen accompanying the Prime Minister wearing his signature Indian jersey.
Silver medallist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is yet to return home as he left for Germany after the Paris Games to consult a doctor for a back injury and possible participation in the Diamond League meeting in Europe.
Prime Minister Modi addressed members of the Indian contingent and also interacted with some of them, including badminton player Lakshya Sen.
Tokyo Olympics medallists Lovlina Borgohain (boxing) and Saikhom Mirabai Chanu (weightlifting) were also among the Paris Games participants who met the PM.
Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha were also present.
Earlier in the day, members of the Indian delegation were present at the historic Red Fort, where Modi addressed the nation on the occasion of 78th Independence Day.
