England cricket captain Ben Stokes said masked thieves broke into his home and stole jewelery and “irreplaceable” personal items while his family was at home and he was with the national team in Pakistan.
Stokes announced on Wednesday (October 30, 2024) that his Castle Eden home in northeast England was burgled on October 17. it was the third day of Second test between Pakistan and England In Multan, Stokes has recently returned to the team after injury.
Stokes said among the items taken in the robbery was his OBE, or Order of the British Empire, a medal awarded by the country.
“By far the worst thing about this crime is that it was committed while my wife and 2 young children were home. Thankfully, no one in my family was physically harmed,” he wrote on X.
“However, clearly, the experience has had an impact on his emotional and mental state. “We can only imagine how much worse this situation could have been.”
The thieves took jewelery and “other valuables and considerable personal belongings”, he said.
“Many of those items have real sentimental value to me and my family. They are irreplaceable.”
Stokes, England’s World Cup winner and one of Britain’s best-known sports stars, said he made the news public to help police catch the thieves. They released photographs of some of the stolen items.
“Although we have lost valuable property, clearly, my sole motivation in sharing these photos is not the recovery of physical items. This is to catch those who did this,” he wrote.
