Alcaraz beats Sinner in dramatic China Open final

After an unexpected exit in the second round at the US Open, Alcaraz has bounced back by winning nine consecutive matches, including Helping Team Europe win the Laver Cup Last month.

Alcaraz looked to be on track for the perfect start with a 5–2 lead in the opening set, however, Sinner saved two set points to force a tie-break, which he won.

The decisive moment in the second game came in the ninth game, when Alcaraz took advantage of the opportunity to grab a break before serving out to take the set to a decider.

There was little to separate the pair early in their careers, their head-to-head record now stands at 6-4 in favor of Alcaraz, and it was another good example of what the future of tennis in Beijing has to offer .

Sinner has made a habit of winning big games during 2024, having won all six of her previous finals – including the Australian Open and US Open – and she got an extra gear to put up another fight in the final set.

Trailing 4–2 in the third, Sinner regained the momentum by winning three consecutive games to send the tie into the match-deciding tie-break.

Sinner looked to be firmly in control after taking a 3-0 lead, but Alcaraz was not to be denied.

He reeled off seven consecutive points to claim victory and made it three wins on the bounce against the two-time Grand Slam champion.

“I’ve been playing great tennis all week, a little bit of luck, but I also feel great on the court,” Alcaraz said.

This victory means he is the first player to win ATP 500 titles on all three surfaces.
