Ruben Amorim Live Updates: Manchester United announce new head coach to replace Eric ten Hag

Eric ten Hag has spoken publicly for the first time since being sacked as Manchester United manager.

The 54-year-old was sacked on Monday morning after two-and-a-half years in charge at Old Trafford following United’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham United.

Ten Hag won the League Cup and FA Cup during his reign at United, but he left after the worst Premier League start in the club’s history.

In a message shared on social media by his representatives, Ten Hag thanked United fans for their “special” support.

“Thank you for always being there for the club,” he said. “Whether it’s an away game or a tough match at Old Trafford, your support has been unwavering.

“I’ve always enjoyed meeting Manchester United fans around the world… You inspire me and create a strong sense of unity. That’s what makes United supporters so special.”

“We won two trophies – achievements that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Of course, my dream was to bring more trophies to the cabinet. Unfortunately, that dream has ended.”

Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim was appointed as Ten Hag’s successor on Friday and will officially take charge of the Old Trafford club from November 11 after completing his duties with Sporting.
