Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is in the final stages of recovery from an ankle injury after almost two months, manager Mikel Arteta said on Friday, November 1, 2024.
Arteta said Odegaard will not play against Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday, but he did not rule the midfielder out of Inter Milan’s trip to Inter Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday.
“Now the stage has come where he is going to do some work with us. Let’s see how he deals with the pain and whether his movements are quite natural,” Arteta said.
“Physically he is now at the required level to compete. Given his work rate and hours, I would be surprised as soon as he starts training with us; He looks ready. soon hopefully.”
Odegaard was injured playing for Norway in a Nations League group-stage match on 9 September, and Arsenal missed his creativity and leadership.
After collecting just one point from their last two matches, Arsenal are in third place, five points behind leaders Manchester City.
Arteta said left-back Riccardo Calafiori will also miss the Newcastle match due to injury, but fellow defender Gabriel will be in contention if he trains well on Friday.
