Young wins second Tour title with Indian Open win

England’s Liz Young won her second Ladies European Tour title by winning the Women’s Indian Open by one shot.

The 42-year-old fell behind compatriot Alice Hewson and Belgium’s Manon de Roi at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Haryana on Sunday and shot a final round score of 72 to move to two under par overall.

De Roey finished one shot behind Young in the round of 74 and tied for second with Singapore’s Shannon Tan, New Zealand’s Momoka Kobori and France’s Agathe Sauzon.

Meanwhile, Hewson finished 11th with a disappointing 79.

Young turned things around with a spectacular birdie on the 15th hole to make up for the deficit and take the lead from De Roey, who could only make one bogey on 17.

The Englishwoman, who last won the Swiss Ladies Open in 2022, found water on the 18th hole and was then forced to make bogey, which De Roi could not improve upon.

“I’m in shock… in disbelief,” said Young, who is 12th on the Ladies European Tour’s Order of Merit.

“This is my second win, but it’s still as important as any other win. It doesn’t happen very often as a professional golfer.”

“It’s never easy. Manon is a very good friend of mine and we battled all day. It’s never easy to beat a friend but she had one (win) earlier this year so now it’s my turn!

“Putting was the key – me and my caddy were reading the greens all day. It was my birthday last week and my daughter’s birthday next week, so it’s a nice birthday celebration.”
