Mikel Arteta has said Arsenal trio Riccardo Calafiori, Bukayo Saka and Jurien Timberd are “very, very uncertain” about playing against Liverpool today. The Arsenal manager is hopeful of being able to call up all three but will wait for further feedback.
“We will try our best to provide them somehow. But it is very, very uncertain,” Arteta said in his pre-match press conference on Friday.
On Calafiori, who looked injured during the midweek Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk, he said: “He needs some more tests… then we’ll know. Last time we thought it was really bad and then he finished playing two days later. So let’s see.”
Netherlands defender Timbers is also doubtful to play, according to Arteta, who said: “This is the first season in which he may have some involvement. We were hopeful that he would come further back (in his rehab). Will have to see again.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool are without goalkeeper Alisson and forward Diogo Jota for the match.
