Chiefs update salary cap after Jawaan Taylor contract restructuring, Hopkins trade

Needing to free up cap space as their books were getting a little tight after acquiring DeAndre Hopkins, the Kansas City Chiefs have adjusted the contract of right tackle Jawan Taylor.

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Chiefs restructured Taylor’s deal to open up $5.3 million in cap space for this season.

With a shortage of cap space after the DeAndre Hopkins trade, the Chiefs restructured OT Jawaan Taylor’s contract by converting the salary into a signing bonus, creating $5.3 million in the 2024 cap space.

As of Thursday, the roster management system (h/t espn.com) estimated the Chiefs to have $3.8 million in cap room. Taylor’s restructuring will increase that number to $9.1 million.
