The NFL’s Week 8 brings an interesting matchup between the Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders, with anticipation growing for a potential face-off between the top 2024 draft picks.

However, there remains uncertainty as to whether both Williams and Daniels will take the field.

Former NFL coach Jay Gruden has been particularly impressed with Jayden Daniels’ rookie campaign.

“Jayden has been tremendous for me at all stages. In the pocket, outside the pocket, red zone reads, quarterback designed runs. He’s been amazing,” Gruden said.

While acknowledging Caleb Williams’ superior talent, Gruden emphasized Daniels’ poise and leadership qualities, saying, “You don’t see any mistakes.”

The numbers support Gruden’s assessment. Daniels has put up remarkable stats, completing 75.6% of his passes for 1,410 yards with six touchdowns against only two interceptions.

His dual-threat abilities shined with 372 rushing yards and four ground scores.

Williams has not been far behind, showcasing his impressive rookie form.

The Bears quarterback has accumulated 1,317 passing yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions, while adding 169 yards on the ground.

Their teams reflect this success, with the Commanders sitting at 5-2 and the Bears following at 4-2.

However, recent developments have cast a shadow over this anticipated matchup.

Daniels did not participate in Wednesday’s practice because of a rib injury he suffered in the first quarter against Carolina.

Daniels’ absence from practice marks a significant disruption to his established routine.

Known for his extraordinary preparation, he typically arrives at the facility around 5 a.m., often conducting personal walkthroughs an hour later.

Wednesday’s missed practice marks his first absence since joining the Commanders this spring.
