Cameron Bancroft was out for just two runs in Western Australia’s chase of a modest target against Tasmania at the WACA on Wednesday.
One of the most likely candidates to replace Cameron Green in the Australian Test order – who will miss the entire summer – Bancroft’s excellent Sheffield Shield form in recent seasons has completely worn off, with the 31-year-old now reaching double figures. Have failed in their last four innings at the state level.
He was out for just two runs in WA’s first innings, followed by two ducks against Queensland in the opening round of the 2024–25 Shield.
Should the selectors ignore recent poor form, Bancroft is certainly in the driver’s seat for a return to the Australian red-ball team ahead of Marcus Harris, Sam Konstas and Matt Renshaw.
