Los Angeles Lakers fans were expecting a big move in the summer…and they were disappointed.

Rather than radically overhaul the roster, the Lakers opted to acquire a new head coach and acquire some rookies through the draft.

It was the range of his moves that really disappointed some people.

Speaking to “Run It Back” via NBACentral, DeMarcus Cousins said the Lakers are “not really serious” about competing in 2024-25.

He claimed that the selection of Bronny James, without any other major changes, proved that the Lakers would not allow themselves to work hard in the upcoming season.

The cousins said:

“I take it as a sign that I don’t think the Lakers are serious anymore. You know, I love everything he symbolizes. I think what Braun is doing as a businessman with his legacy and everything associated with it is a beautiful thing. I think it’s really dope. But as far as the Lakers actually competing, I don’t know. I take this as a sign that they’re not really serious. The way his season ended last year, with high expectations, I expected more from him in terms of stepping up.

Cousins respects LeBron James and the fact that he will play with his son, but he doesn’t think it will help the Lakers.

To be fair, the Lakers also received another player, Dalton Knecht, via the draft.

But Cousins is right to be concerned about the Lakers after the summer.

JJ Redick is unproven and neither rookie will change the team’s fortunes much.

Of course, the team could still make other changes in the coming months.

Perhaps the front office will wait until the trade deadline in February.

Maybe they are planning to make a big bang then, and that might help the team.

They may eventually get serious, but right now, Cousins and many other Lakers fans aren’t so sure about the team.
