Farke admitted that in his 30 years in football he had never experienced such an incident, with such a decisive mistake effectively occurring with the last touch of the match.
The Leeds boss suggested that captain Pascal Struijk had seen the ball bounce badly past his goalkeeper, which led to Meslier letting it slide past him.
But Farke couldn’t say with certainty whether there was a foul divot on the pitch, which cost his injury-hit side two crucial points at the Stadium of Light after an impressive display.
He said, “After a situation like this, you don’t need to speak about it β no one wants to hear anything.”
“Pascal came and said he had never seen anything like it. He said it bounced and bounced in the other direction because there was a mark on the pitch.
“I can’t tell you if that was the case because I wasn’t on the pitch, but Pascal was probably in the best position to watch. If that was the case, it was incredibly unfortunate.
βTo lose those points like that is heartbreaking, horrible, very sad and disappointing for our boys.β
